O que se pode chamar “Terceira Guerra Mundial” não foi por motivos religiosos, raciais ou qualquer coisa que se assemelhe a isso, porém também não foi uma guerra fria. Na época a cura para a doença de Holtzapfel, também conhecido como Trissomia 22 ou T22, era a única coisa que importava para todos os governo, mas é claro que havia uma minoria menos conturbada pelo medo de ser exterminada por ela. Os governos coreano, chinês e japonês se uniram para que, com todo o seu desenvolvimento e conhecimento pudessem “gerar” uma cura ou algo que amenizasse a T22, porém somente para seu povo. Era sim uma guerra por algum motivo que poderia ser resolvido sem carnificina, mas a ânsia de obter a cura era tão grande que grande parte dos demais governos se uniram contra os já citados para tentar desonera-los, a não ser que aceitassem ajudar esses governos e seus povos na questão da cura, e foi ai que a verdadeira guerra aconteceu.

Durante essa guerra, os governos “causadores” da guerra escolheram secretamente os continentes americanos para construir um refúgio onde as pessoas pudessem viver em paz se não estivessem na guerra, conseguissem escapar de seus países sem morrer contaminados pela T22 ou pelas mãos dos governos que haviam se unido aos que tinham o avanço na cura por terem certeza de que se os ajudassem naqueles tempos de guerra onde eles tinham menos vantagem, ganhariam a cura quando ela fosse descoberta. E assim os governos americanos – que estavam todos de acordo com a guerra – fizeram, em pouco tempo um tipo de “sociedade secreta” subterrânea chamada de “Nação” passou a existir e era habitada e altamente controlada em tudo.

Mas esse não era o único problema que restava para os Dunkelhëit antes que eles pudessem tentar reconstruir a Nação (agora sob a terra), eles haviam criado sozinhos, sem a opinião de nenhuma outra pessoa – sem ser da família – que ainda tinha alguma influência sobre a nação, um modo novo de governo mais organizado em sua opinião, e sem culpa e rodeios, acharam e silenciosamente realizaram o jeito que tinham para ter o poder total.

Após a morte do resto das pessoas que poderiam interceptar os planejamentos dos Dunkelhëit sem que ninguém descobrisse, eles estabeleceram um novo modo de governo. As classes eram divididas entre Alfa, Beta e Ômega, além dos cientistas, que começaram a procurar a cura já que durante a guerra a Nação adquiriu tecnologias o suficiente para isso, os experimentos do governo e os Governantes/Administradores (governo). Todas as crianças são educadas na escola para serem de um dos cargos superiores (cientistas ou governantes) até os 17 anos, quando fazem a Avaliação Primária e descobrem se são Alfas, Betas ou Ômegas e, após isso, decidem se irão somente permanecer como um adulto nessas raças fazendo algo para si mesmo e sua família ou trabalhando em um cargo superior. Caso falhe em seu trabalho, ele virá a ser um experimento do governo, como uma punição, porém ele terá ainda uma utilidade.

Atualmente a Nação e controlada por Brigitte Dunkelhëit, a última herdeira direta e bisneta de Veronika e Klaus, e sua esposa e prima Ella Dunkelhëit, alfa por Avaliação primária e governante.
